Alternatives

Options
A Little Bit of Heaven offers unwanted horses a number of alternatives to slaughter, including adoption and fostering. Sponsorship is an option for people who wish to help.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation needs vary from horse to horse. Medical rehab of injured horses is critical to full recovery, while training helps horses rediscover their willingness to work with humans.

Education

Education
As part of our endeavor to educate responsible horse ownership, A Little Bit of Heaven offers horsemanship lessons, hosts clinics and expos, and makes equine-related referrals.

Our Mission

To take in unwanted, mistreated, abused or neglected horses to rehabilitate and place them in good homes, thus preventing good horses from going to slaughter. Our goal is to help each horse find its purpose and give it a chance in life to meet its fullest potential.

Our rehabs include injured horses, neglected and underweight horses, and pregnant mares ready to foal. For many of them, their problems were caused by owners who viewed them as disposable property. Although we are not a no-kill shelter, we make every effort to save all of the animals entrusted to our care. Unfortunately, some animals cannot be rehabilitated due to the extremity of their health issues upon arrival or because they are a danger to staff, volunteers, the other horses, or even themselves. An extension of our mission is educational outreach among the equine community.

With this in mind, we offer the following services:

  • An alternative to slaughter
  • Equine rehabilitation (medical)
  • Equine rehabilitation (training)
  • Horse adoption
  • "Sponsor a Horse" program
  • "Foster a Horse" program
  • Horsemanship Lessons
  • Clinics/expos
  • Equine-related referrals
